During his years in Kenya, Dr. Galat performed more than 5,000 orthopedic surgical cases, including hundreds of complex hip and knee replacement surgeries, as well as orthopedic trauma.
Believing that the solution to orthopaedic needs in developing countries rests in training national surgeons, he started the first Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS) Orthopedic Residency Program at Tenwek Hospital in 2013. Since then, PAACS Orthopedics has expanded to include two additional training sites in Kenya and Ethiopia, with currently more than 20 national orthopedic trainees. Dr. Galat’s work in Africa continues with regular return visits as the Program Administrator for PAACS Orthopedics, and as a member of the World Medical Mission Committee, the medical ministry arm of Samaritan’s Purse. Dr. Galat wrote a blog full of stories of his life and work in Africa that you are welcome to visit: www.dangalatkenya.blogspot.com.
